Manchester City line up £11m bid for Hamburg's
Jerome Boateng and Osasuna's Cesar Azpilicueta
Manchester City will revive an £11m move for German international defender Jerome Boateng in the summer.
Manager Roberto Mancini, who also dispatched scouts to watch Osasuna right-back and long-time target Cesar Azpilicueta this week, is planning a major squad overhaul centring on his defence.
Hamburg centre-back Boateng, 21, whose contract says he can leave for £11m, has inspired his club to the Europa League quarter-finals and sixth place in the Bundesliga. His brother Kevin-Prince is due to leave Portsmouth this summer.

The Germans want 6ft 3ins Boateng to extend his current contract to 2013. However, he is keen on the challenge at City and could be joined by Azpilicueta - even though Osasuna want £15m for the 20-year-old Spaniard.
City scouts have watched Azpilicueta all season after Mark Hughes was initially alerted to him. They were once again spying on him during Osasuna’s 2-0 defeat to Barcelona on Wednesday but he has a contract until 2014 that would make his purchase costly.
Thommo call to Kop star
The former Kop skipper feels such an ultimatum will be the best way to turn up the heat on American owners Tom Hicks and George Gillett.
Thompson reckons the star pair could smoke out the unpopular Yanks by telling them to back boss Rafa Benitez with a transfer kitty in the summer.
Anfield legend Thommo rapped: "Fernando Torres said he didn't want to be fighting for fourth place every year - and he is absolutely bang on.
"He and Stevie Gerrard should be saying 'If you're not going to invest, why would we want to remain here?' They need to give them some ultimatums."

Manchester City boss Roberto Mancini pins his hopes on
cut-price deal for Edinson Cavani
Mancini has met Cavani's agent to discuss a deal for the 23-year-old Uruguayan, who is close to signing a new contract that would include a release clause of £25m.
Mancini had hoped the player would invoke a clause in his present arrangement allowing him to quit Italy in a cut-price deal.
City are also linked with Roma's France centre half Philippe Mexes.
FRANCK RIBERY snubbed a move to Chelsea - because his wife would hate the
English weather.
Blues boss Carlo Ancelotti wants to sign the France star, 26, who is stalling on a new deal at Bayern Munich.
But with his Algerian missus Wahiba sick of the cold and wet weather in Germany, Ribery will target Spain should he decide to move on.
He said: "Chelsea are a big club but if I decide against extending my Bayern contract I will go to Spain for certain.
"I have to take many factors into account - not just what is good for me but my wife and children as well.
"Wahiba is from the south. She needs sunshine but it rains and snows in Munich.
"She is often alone when I'm not home and she has few friends."
